Requirement
All dogs over 6 months of age are required to be registered with the Town clerk by April 1st each year per state statute.
New Dogs
- Register a new dog by mailing or emailing a copy of a current rabies certificate, owner’s name, address and contact information, dog breed, color, age, size (small, medium or large) and date of spay or neuter. PLEASE NOTE: IF EMAILING A COPY OF RABIES CERTIFICATE, PLEASE SCAN AND ATTACH AS A PDF (no screen shots please).
Renewals
- Renew by mail or email by sending the fee and current rabies certificate.
Payment Options
- Mail or drop off your payment at the Town Office, 81 Main Street, Essex Jct., VT 05452 (please include documentation with your payment). Checks should be made payable to the Town of Essex. For your convenience, a drop-box is available 24/7 to the left of the front door (no cash please). License and tags will be mailed to you.
- Cash, check, or credit/debit cards are accepted at the Town Office. A convenience fee will be charged by the credit/debit vendor.*

Cats & Other Animals
There are no licensing requirements for cats or other animals. If you have an animal related problem call animal control at 802-878-1333.
